As a dedicated pet lover and dog trainer, it’s always a thrill to find high-quality toys that keep our furry friends happy, healthy, and entertained.

Especially when they are in fact high-quality and for a good price!

I’ve been skeptical of pet products in Bunnings in the past, but it seems the Mammoth range of pet toys are quite good.

I did some digging and Mammoth Pet Toys are actually an American brand with a great deal of positive reviews (I checked Amazon reviews).

Let’s take a look…

A bit of background on Mammoth pet toys

Mammoth Pet Products have been in the game since 1995, so longer than you may expect.

They have a focus on creating pet toys which promote positive play and mental stimulation, and the range of Mammoth pet toys at Bunnings are mostly rope-based toys – I’ll cover why these are beneficial for your dog shortly.

I’m not entirely sure whether these toys would “enhance dental health”, but knowing how much my dog loves to play tug these are definitely a great boredom buster (click on the link for some top boredom buster tips!).

It’s great to see the Mammoth range of pet toys now available at Bunnings. Us guys can tell our wives we’re off to buy some nails, but what we really what is a new toy for our best mate.

The benefits of rope toys

We often assume toys are just toys, to give our dogs a bit of fun.

Did you know rope toys can make your dog more intelligent?

Dogs have an instinctive need to tug and chew. It’s a prey thing which we often overlook with domestic dogs, and something we should try and consider more – it’s good to give a dog a raw meaty bone, right?

Rope toys hook into this instinctive behaviour, and that’s why they love it so much.

Tugging on a rope toy will help your dog manage stress and anxiety, potentially ward off some plaque and tartar, and the games you can play with them – throw, catch, tug, hide, chase – will stimulate them mentally.

Ever noticed how your dog is calmer after a game of tug or chew sesh?

Top picks from the Mammoth range

If you’re stumped on which rope toy to choose, here’s a quick intro into the range. I’m sure, knowing your dog’s behaviour and temperament, which one they would love the most:

  • Mammoth Extra Fresh Rope Dog Toys – You’ll definitely find this toy quirky. It’s made with real dental floss formulated with natural beeswax and mint to freshen your dog’s breath!
  • Mammoth Peanut Butter Rope Toys – Does your dog go nuts for peanut butter? It’s actually a “peanut butter scent” made with beeswax and paraffin wax (both non-toxic and digestible), so don’t worry if anyone in your family has a peanut allergy!
  • Mammoth Tirebiter Toy with Rope – These dog toys are a combination of a tyre made of tough rubber combined with a rope. These seem very durable to great if your dog is a serious chewer.
  • Mammoth 3 Knot Rope Tug with Tennis Ball – My dog loves balls (she’s a collie), so this is the toy which my dog loved the most. A tennis ball on a rope means this is perfect for playing fetch, and it’s easier to throw around the garden than a regular tennis ball plus the added game of tug. As a dog trainer I must say this is a great interactive toy which will help your puppy mentally develop!
  • Mammoth SnakeBiter – This is one of the simplest toys in the Mammoth pet toy range and thankfully not a snake. It’s a rope in the shape of a snake, and great to play tug with.

Considerations for dog owners

Whenever you buy a toy for your dog, it’s important to ensure it’s the right size and fit for purpose for your dog’s age, temperament, and breed.

I often hear from dog owners who have bought (or been given as a gift) a cheap toy, only to find their dog has destroyed it within seconds. In some cases devoured, which is not good news for your dog.

With any toy make sure it is safe for your dog, and monitor them when necessary.

If a toy shows signs of wear it could well be time to throw it away.

Always check the recommended sizes and weights, especially to avoid choking hazards for small pups or overly strenuous play for larger dogs.

Remember, the right toy can make a big difference, and a few more bucks can be money well spent.

Mammoth toys are now conveniently available at Bunnings.

Would you consider giving these innovative toys a try to see how they transform playtime with your dog?
